Bilingüe GSM
Vintage: 2022
Tasting notes: This vintage brings a little extra flesh and fruit, but still keeps that savoury, grounded edge we love. Bright red berries up front, with spice, musk and a bit of gamey complexity as it opens up. The palate is generous and juicy, but the structure is all from grape tannin - no flashy oak to get in the way. After two years in bottle, it’s come together beautifully: smooth, savoury, full of character and detail. One of those reds you’ll keep coming back to for another glass.
Winemaker’s notes: Bilingüe is all about conversation - between varieties, regions, and styles. It’s Grenache and Mourvèdre from two small sites in Geographe (Barrecas near Donnybrook and Crooked Brook), blended with a dash of Syrah from Frankland River to lift the aromatics.
Fermented wild in small open fermenters with around 10% whole bunches, foot stomped and hand plunged. After a few weeks on skins, it was pressed to seasoned French oak - no new barrels here - for 12 months of rest. We bottled it unfined, with just a touch of sulphur, and let it sit in bottle for two years before release so the tannins could relax and the flavours could settle in. The result is a layered, savoury red that’s structured but easy to drink, serious but unpretentious. A blend that doesn’t shout - but definitely has something to say.
Alcohol 14.2%.
