Chagrin Chardonnay (2022 vintage)
Vintage: 2022
Tasting notes: Perfumed, fine stone fruit and citrus, savoury lees complexity, moreish saline freshness and tight oak presence. Flavoursome and textured, with a long tight acid line, the palate rings clear as a bell. On previous form for this vineyard, this will gain complexity and develop in a slow arc for 10-15 years.
Winemaker’s notes: Sourced from a single site in Scotsdale Valley, west of Denmark, at the cutting edge of WA chardonnay. Hand harvested, then pressed direct to French oak: a mix of seasoned puncheons and new hogsheads Wild ferment on full solids, 9 months on unsulphured lees, without stirring; naturally settled, racked and bottled without fining.
Reviews: 93 points - Mike Bennie, The Winefront
“True to form chardonnay, let’s say, lots of regional sea spray character over ripe apple, bay leaf, lime with some cashew and faint nougat notes. The palate has a bit of lushness then draws in the bows to wrap up with powdery, delightful, briny acidity. A very moreish wine, really thirst-quenching and generally very good drinking. Up my alley.”
Alcohol 11.8%.
