Vintage: 2025
Tasting notes: Dark cherry and plum aromas, with a touch of amaro spice in the background. It needs a moment to open up, as brooding earthiness nestles among the red fruits. Excellent prospects for mid-term cellaring, but there’s plenty to savour right now, with a silky mouthfeel and lovely persistence of flavour. Definitely one to buy a few bottles for now and a few to lay down for the future.
Winemaker notes: Sourced from the same vineyard as the Chaguar chardonnay. Kalgan River is north-facing with an outlook to the Porongurup Range. This ironstone-rich block, planted with clones 115 and 777 is warmer than our Denmark site, typically ripening a week or more in advance, giving the wine more fruit density. Separate whole bunch ferment contributes twenty percent of the blend, bringing aromatic complexity and tannic depth. The ferment was hand plunged in small vessels over several weeks, then pressed to French hogsheads (15% new) to spend 9 months resting on fine lees prior to bottling.
