Yé-Yé Grisé Gewürztraminer / Riesling

$32.00

Vintage: 2022

Tasting notes: Pretty and fresh, with heady aromatics of musk, citrus blossom, and a touch of rosewater. The palate has lovely volume and that signature slip - juicy, layered, and mouth-watering thanks to bright acidity and textural complexity from lees and barrel ferment. It’s vibrant and seriously moreish. Fans of previous vintages will feel right at home with this release - just chill it down and let it shine.

Winemaker’s notes: Yé-Yé GRISÉ is all about aromatic lift, gentle texture, and that subtle, enticing blush in the glass. The Gewürztraminer component comes from two sites: a high-elevation gravelly slope just south of Gnomesville in the Ferguson Valley, plus a small parcel from Swinney’s highly regarded Wilson’s Pool vineyard in Frankland River. After a few hours on skins for depth of flavour and a hint of colour, the juice went to a mix of tank and old oak for wild ferment without sulphur.

The Riesling is sourced from one of my favourite Great Southern vineyards - a gravelly ironstone hillside west of Mount Barker that always delivers precision and drive, especially in a vintage as good as 2022. And to really lean into the "grisé" vibe, there’s even a bucket of skin-contact Black Muscat in the mix this year, adding that subtle copper hue and aromatic intrigue.

Aromatic, textural, a bit playful, and made for good times.
