Source: Mount Barker, Great Southern
Fermentation: Wild yeast, small open top fermenters with hand plunging, spending 8 months in seasoned French barriques and hogsheads.
Tasting: Fruit was sourced from a vineyard that usually goes into Up! Shiraz, so unsurprisingly it shows loads of cool climate pepper lift, bursting with bright red fruits and dried herb aromas; medium bodied, super drinkable, silky finish with fresh spice aromatics.

Vintage: 2023
Tasting notes: Not your average savvy. This is all about texture, depth and savoury charm. Expect citrus peel, dried herbs, and subtle tropical notes layered over a gently grippy palate. There’s a savoury, creamy element from time in oak and on lees, but it stays bright and fresh. Complex, satisfying, and built for those who want something a little wilder from their white wine. Serve cool - not ice-cold - to really let it talk.
Winemaker’s notes: This is a special little side project with the good folk at Frankland Estate. They’ve been organically managing what’s probably the best low-yielding, old-vine Sauvignon Blanc block in the Great Southern - and they let me loose on a bit of it to see what would happen.
We went all in: seven days on skins to draw out minerality and aromatic punch, then pressed straight to new oak for a wild, solids-heavy ferment. Malolactic happened along the way. It was fully sauvage. After a cold, wet Denmark winter spent lazing about in a dark barrel cellar, it turned into something uniquely delicious - a proper treat for textural wine lovers.
Yields were tiny, so just 150 cases made. Don’t miss the ride.

“This is new at La Violetta. Sauvignon Blanc cold soaked for a week then pressed to barrel. Made into fumé style and fumé style it is. Elegant and savoury. Confirmed with the first sniff, a mix of crushed herbs, peppermint tea and nettle, a hint of pineapple skin, slippery texture, a little oily but rather cool, like the feel of thick satin. Classic pairing comes to mind but I swear this wine has it in its aromas and flavours—chèvre with a dusting of herbs and drizzled with eucalypt honey. Stony, dry-bitter finish. So good. This is how I want to drink my SB.”

Tasting notes: Perfumed and poised, Penury 2023 opens with a swirl of dark cherry, rose petals and earthy spice—think cinnamon, musk and sandalwood. It’s light to medium in weight, but don’t be fooled: there’s depth, energy and a quiet intensity that builds with each sip. Silky tannins, vibrant fruit, and gentle spice make it a joy to drink now, especially with a decant—but it’s built to go the distance too. Tuck it away for 10–15 years if you’re patient.
Winemaker’s notes: Sourced from the same picturesque Denmark vineyard as our Chagrin Chardonnay and Meunier, Penury is a blend of three Pinot Noir clones - 777, 114 and 115 - crafted with care and a bit of barefoot charm. 2023 was a dream vintage in the Great Southern, and the fruit was so beautiful we kept stopping to snap photos in the vineyard.
Fermentation took place in three small open-top fermenters, using wild yeasts, gentle hand plunging and traditional foot stomping. The wine was then pressed to a mix of new and seasoned French oak for six months before bottling, unfined and unfiltered. The result? A Pinot with finesse, soul, and just enough wild edge to keep things interesting.

“Ah! This is lovely. The 2023 Penury is all strawberries and cherries, with wisps of milk chocolate (à la the Flake chocolate bar) and blood orange, white pepper, spicy whole-bunch notes and a swag of very finely milled tannin in the mouth. This is attractive, elegant, supple and good. It's not a dense wine, but it's gently intense, almost sapid. It's very pretty, with attractive woodsy sort of spices. This is a product of the lovely 2023 season - one not to be underestimated in Western Australia.”

Payment is taken automatically using the card you provide at checkout. Your card will be charged at the frequency you choose (every 1, 3 or 6 months), just before each shipment is sent. We’ll always give you a heads-up beforehand.

When you add the wine club subscription to your cart, you’ll be prompted to fill out a form telling us what your favourite drops are. From there, we’ll build you your custom subscription.
A few important details:
1. Wine selection. Wines shown on this page are indicative only. Due to the small-batch and seasonal nature of our wines, the exact bottles included in your shipment may vary.
For AJ Mix, Classic and Offbeat memberships, selections are curated by La Violetta based on availability and style.
For Choose Your Own memberships, you’ll be invited to select your wines before each shipment. If no changes are made, your previous selection will be sent.
2. Billing & payments. By joining the La Violetta Wine Club, you authorise us to automatically charge your nominated payment method at the frequency you selected (every 3, 6 or 12 months). Billing occurs prior to each shipment. You’ll receive an email reminder before your card is charged. If a payment fails, we’ll attempt to process it again and notify you to update your details.
3. Pricing & discounts. Wine Club pricing reflects exclusive member discounts (10% off RRP for Choose Your Own Club; and 15% off RRP for Classics, Offbeat and AJ’s Mix Clubs. All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD).
4. Shipping. Wine Club shipments include free metro shipping. Regional shipping rates may apply and will be displayed at checkout. Delivery timeframes may vary depending on location and seasonal demand.
5. Changes, pausing & cancellations. You can update your delivery address, payment details, pause or cancel your membership at any time by contacting hello@laviolettawines.com.au. To avoid being charged for your next shipment, changes must be made before the next billing date.
6. Minimum commitment. There is no minimum commitment. You may cancel your membership at any time prior to your next billing date.
7. Stock availability. All Wine Club shipments are subject to availability. In the event a wine becomes unavailable, we reserve the right to substitute with a wine of equal or greater value and similar style.
8. Age requirement. By purchasing a Wine Club membership, you confirm that you are 18 years or older and legally permitted to purchase alcohol in Australia.
9. Member communications. By joining the Wine Club, you agree to receive Wine Club-related emails, including shipment notifications, selection reminders, and member-only offers. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
