Source: Swinney Vineyard, Frankland River, Great Southern.

Fermentation: Six days pre-ferment skin contact, before pressing to large Slavonian oak foudres and seasoned French hogsheads for wild fermentation. Six months on full ferment lees before bottling without fining.

Tasting: Fresh citrus and quince, coastal herbs. Juicy textural glide, finishing with a cleansing saline vibe. Proof that Vermentino feels right at home in Great Southern!

Across the lineup, the wines were described as everything from “soft-spoken but full of charm” and “vibrant and dangerously drinkable” to “pop music in chilled red form.”

"Almost a ramato vibe here - a coppery orange tinge in the glass. Smells like Campari and Aperol with some blood orange squeezed through it. Drain the bottle with a friend on a balmy Friday evening, and you'll have a great time doing so - an all-round crowd pleaser.”

2026 Lounge Chill (Grenache)
“It screams summer and fun to me. It has a vibrant acidity, great energy, good length - and, despite its sweeter fruit profile, is fruit-forward without being overly simplistic. This is very much pop music in chilled red form - playing all of your summer hits.”

2024 Yé-Yé Rouge (Pinot Noir, Syrah, Pinot Meunier)
“Tingly spice and medium weight fruit, showing black plums and hints of red liquorice. What really makes this compelling is the structure - those furry tannins act like a frame to the wine, holding everything in place perfectly. It feels like a wine for a dimly-lit bistro or candle-lit bar.”

2025 Fric Frac (Cabernet Franc)
“The palate stays bright and crunchy, alive with primary fruit and fresh acidity that gives shape and swagger in equal measure. Vibrant and dangerously drinkable, this is cabernet franc with charm, tension and plenty of personality.”

Vintage: 2024

Tasting notes: Intensely aromatic; cool climate citrus, stone fruit and mineral notes. Richly flavoured, with textural phenolics; savoury, saline complexity from lees contact and barrel ferment. With our riesling release programme of extended bottle maturation in place, the 2024 is the most approachable and balanced Das Sakrileg release yet, one with a long cellaring future ahead.

Winemaker’s notes: Das Sakrileg is produced in small quantities for those with inquisitive palates and a healthy appreciation of diversity. In contrast to the classic, purist Australian Riesling style, juice is oxidatively handled, fermented wild in old French oak with solids, matured on unsulphured lees and may undergo partial malolactic fermentation.

This is a selection of the best barrels from the vintage, sourced from two outstanding Great Southern riesling sites. Coming from a warmer than typical growing season, the 2024 is remarkably open and expressive in its youth, showing phenolic presence, depth and generosity, with scents reminiscent of quince, beeswax and mandarin, and complex characters derived from wild ferment and extended lees contact. On the finely textured palate, acidity is tempered by the richness of time on lees in large format seasoned oak. The wine fermented slowly at ambient temperature in a cool hillside cellar and remained on lees in old puncheons and hogsheads for 10 months, before racking and bottling without fining or filtration. As it's barrel fermented, it shows depth and ripeness, richness of fruit, mango skin, golden kiwi, quince, pomelo and notes of beeswax and flint. There's a mineral tension building here with each sip, but the texture is relaxed in a way, not racing, rather patient, sinking slowly but deeply with a ripe, pithy acidity and a toasted almond edge.
